Vita nova

Teil 1: Skulptur – „Das verschlissene Kleid“
Teil 2: Skulptur – „Die Belebte“

Vita nova (engl.)

My work „Vita nova“ arose from dealing with the theme of the biennale – eternal femininity.
In the three-dimensional implementation it was of course only possible for me to extract and present one aspect of this large, complex topic.
The material I have chosen – steel – is of particular importance here, as it is intended to underline the archaic tone of my work. In the design language I consciously chose a figurative representation, because I want to address the viewer as directly as possible.

The title of my work – Vita nova – is based on the title of the same name from Dante Alighieri’s early work (around 1293).
In it, Dante tells of his love for Beatrice, which has renewed his life.

The term “new” in this book indicates the renewing power of love, which also has an essential meaning in my work.

My group of sculptures “Vita nova” is made of steel – forged by hand.

It consists of 3 parts:
Part 1: sculpture – „the worn dress“
Part 2: sculpture – „the animated“
Part 3: base plate with text

to part 1:
I depicted the sculpture „the worn dress“ as a fragment of the head and it should be a symbol of the lost divine.

to part 2:
Turned away, on a pedestal stands “the animated”, which I created based on an inspiration of the sculpture “Eva” by Auguste Rodin.
She expresses fear and shame through posture and turns away from the divine. This separation is her life, at the same time a new direction and identity – but also an unprecedented pain of being lost nests in her heart.

to part 3:
An excerpt from the Lamentations of Jeremiah is written in Latin on the base plate. (Klgl. 1,12; transl. Luther).

„I tell you all who pass by: look and see if there is any pain like my pain that hit me.“

Vita nova (it.)

Parte 1: Scultura – „Il vestito consumato“
Parte 2: Scultura – „L’Animato“
